Lakewood Neighborhood History

Early 1900s
The present “Lakewood” was one of the Talbott Farms, which later became the Cromwell Farm.
In 1919 it was acquired by the Coburn-Hardy Realty Company, owned by T. Gray Coburn and Sam D. Hardy. It was next acquired by a neighbor, Captain Horace Laird and in 1940 was acquired by the Lakewood Corporation.
The present “Windsor Point” was originally Philpotts’ Point on the Edgar Simpson Farm. In 1917, it was acquired by Sam D. Hardy.
Coat of Arms
Our beloved Lakewood is almost completely surrounded by the Lafayette River; therefore our Civic League “Coat of Arms” is based on the Coat of Arms of General LaFayette.
